I was looking at Instagram last week when a short video about feng shui came up. The woman, who identified herself as a feng shui expert, said to clean your front door if your money flow is low. Wipe down the door front and back, she said, and the door frame and especially the doorknob. The front door, apparently, is where wealth, luck, and opportunities enter your space.
“Huh,” I thought. I’m pretty down-to-earth and practical. But I also have a freelance writing business and a variable income, and this month, my money flow was low. I wiped down my front door.
The next morning I woke up to an inbox full of jobs. A startling number of jobs, and more came in later that day. I couldn’t believe it.
As I’d wiped down the door of my old house, I realized it needed a new coat of paint, so the next day, I picked up a quart and repainted it. More work flowed in.
In just two days, I greatly exceeded my (very healthy) earnings goal for the whole month. It was amazing!
Is there something to feng shui? Or did all that work come in because of the big marketing push I’d just done? Well, of course, I thought – except, interestingly, almost all of the projects came from editors that were new to me and that I hadn’t marketed to.
I think it’s all important. Marketing your business is critical, of course. Introduce yourself to editors who hire the type of work you do. Tend to your surroundings a bit at a time, too, so you’re living and working in a home that’s clean, comfortable, and conducive to meeting your goals
Either way, it’s a good reminder that opportunities often come through more than one door.
