Every Thursday at 3:30 p.m., I have a standing meeting that I protect as best I can. Four friendly faces pop up on Zoom to share updates.
How is business? Who is participating in our next marketing challenge? Where are you stuck? How many birds are actually singing in your yard? What are you reading, and is it “Yesteryear” yet?
Sure, we (often) wander off topic sometimes. But we also celebrate wins, talk through challenges and catch up on life outside of work. We bring our full selves to the conversation.
It’s no different from any kind of corporate team meeting I’ve been in. The difference is we’re not coworkers, we’re four senior writers spread across the United States — from Hawaii to the East Coast. We each run our own businesses. We don’t compete, but we do share ideas and encouragement and provide honest feedback and support. That support makes each of us stronger individually as writers, business owners, people and (on occasion) birders and readers.
